About Sandra Cherry
Last modified: June 15, 2010
Sandra Cherry has worked in the world of finance since 1994, and is a dedicated professional. She provides quality insurance products, specializing in Life, Disability Income and Long-Term Care.
“When my former husband and I bought life insurance years ago,” Sandra recalls, “I remember our insurance agent sat in our home and spoke only to my husband, like I wasn’t there.” This experience had a profound effect on Sandra when she became a licensed agent herself. She knew she would never disregard the spouse in a financial situation. Sandra’s business philosophy is to do her best to help people achieve their financial goals. Her ultimate success is seeing the client living comfortably and passing on his or her assets to heirs. She also looks out for her clients’ wellbeing. For example, Sandra’s suspicion when an elderly client requested an unusually large withdrawal for a new car led to the capture of a criminal who preyed on senior women—and the securing of her client’s assets.
The skills learned during her work as an Ombudsman for Long-Term Care Services of Ventura County have served Sandra well. “I know how to listen to people and respond with recommendations that are suitable for each client’s particular needs,” Sandra says. “There is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ financial product.”
In previous positions, Sandra worked for a collection agency, as a bank credit verifier, and a credit and collection manager for a large security company. Her initial entrepreneurial experience was Rags, Mops & Brooms, a housecleaning service.
An active member of her community, Sandra is involved with Friends of the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza as a volunteer usher and The Greater Contribution, a non-profit organization that raises money for micro loans for third world countries. Previously, Sandra served on the Boards of the Ventura County Adult Abuse Prevention Council and California Women Business Owner’s (CWBO). She also served as Chair for “Special Kids Day” held during Conejo Valley Days, and raised funds for the Leukemia Society of America participating in—and completing—its 26.2 mile Honolulu Marathon.
Sandra holds a bachelor of arts in Psychology with a minor in Gerontology from California State University, Northridge. She earned a Professional Designation in Personal Financial Planning (PFP) from UCLA, and holds FINRA Series 7, 65 and 63 licenses, as well as California Insurance License No. 0B45111. While sharing office space with a CPA/CFP and an Estate Planning Attorney, Sandra learned about advanced tax planning strategies.
Sandra enjoys attending self-awareness workshops and business seminars. She and her rescue dog, Patches, reside in Cornell, California. She has a married son and travels as often as she can.
